In 1960, a comic country singer named Tootsie Bess bought a Nashville bar formerly known as Mom’s adjacent to the Ryman Auditorium. Tootsie quickly became a mama figure herself to the hard-living songwriters such as Willie Nelson and Roger Miller who frequented the joint. The airport franchise is covered in framed publicity shots of country stars, just like Tootsie’s original Wall of Fame. These walls are, of course, painted orchid.
