Iconic Tootsie’s to get second story

Nashville Business Journal reports big news for Tootsies Orchid Lounge!  See full story here.

Attention beer drinkers and country line dancers: Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is about to get a little bigger.

Owner Steve Smith, who recently opened Honkytonk Central in the long-shuttered Seanachie building downtown, told the Nashville Business Journal Monday that Tootsie’s will be getting another 3,200 square feet of space, right on top of what’s there now. The additional room will be above existing space toward the back of the building.

Smith said he’s currently working to secure building permits for the construction, but declined to talk about how much the expansion would cost. He estimated that the new space would open next winter, just in time for the opening of the 1.2 million-square-foot Music City Center and the 800-room Omni Hotel.

The move is just another piece of the downtown puzzle for Smith, who is no stranger to bars on Broadway. Smith recently partnered with Hardin Ross of Broadway Brewhouse to buy the Seanachie building for $2.1 million.

Smith and Ross also share ownership in Rippy’s on Broadway.
