Lower Broadway hot spot wants to expand at rear of existing building on Lower Broadway

Tootsies Orchid Lounge, found in the shadow of Ryman Auditorium and known for playing host to country music stars and wannabes, plans to get larger.

Tootsies owner Steve Smith has submitted plans to add roughly 3,500 square feet to the iconic nightspot at 422 Broadway, according to Metro records.

The additional space would be built on top of existing space in the rear of the building, and would house a third bar and stage, Smith said Monday.

“Right now we’re in the preliminary stages of getting our permits approved,” he said. “We hope to get started on it as soon as possible.”
